Magic Find items are also a great place to consider upgrades.
Other desirable set items, such as Naj's Puzzler staff or Laying of Hands gloves are already Elite and don't need upgrading.įilling out Magic Find sets, particularly in mid-levels. While the traits don't change, the added Defense may extend their utility. Aldur's Advance Boots go from Exceptional Battle Boots to Elite Mirrored Boots, increasing the defense 39-47 to the early 60s (the ones I upgraded rolled with a 61), Strength requirement from 95 to 163, and Level requirement from 45 to 67. Upgrading Guillaume's Face from Exceptional Winged Helm to Elite Spired Helm increases its defense from 217 to 321 (Strength requirement also goes from 115 to 192 and Level requirement from 34 to 66). It may be of interest to players who are using BiS one-off set items such as Guillaume's Face face or Aldur's Advance boots.

Being able to upgrade those lower-level items to bring their Defense into line with the other items may make this set more attractive. For example, the popular Immortal King set has a huge level range of pieces, from minimum level of 29 to maximum level of 76. So what is this upgrade system useful for?īringing sets with large level ranges into parity. The other items are never going to be comparable to other Unique or higher-tier Set items in the 62-72 range. The damage on Vidala's Ambush has always been low, and it remains pathetically low in Exceptional and Elite versions. It's fairly clear looking at this that Vidala's Rig will never be a prime candidate for upgrading, but it's a good illustration of a set that contains both armor and a weapon. Rings and Amulets cannot be upgraded using these recipes, as there is only one quality state for jewelry (no Normal, Exceptional, or Elite). Only the sliding scale traits, those that change with the character level, will have much utility beyond a certain point.

However, the stats, partial set, and full set bonuses remain unchanged among the three quality states, which greatly limits their utility at higher levels. Both have higher level and stat requirements. What is the effect of upgrading them to their Exceptional and Elite counterparts? Exceptional and Elite armor pieces have higher Defense, and Exceptional and Elite weapons have higher Damage. +1-148 Maximum Cold Damage (+1.5/Character Level)

This is the set as it drops in game, updated for the changes that will be applied to this set in Patch 2.4: To test this, we upgraded the Vidala's Rig set, a low-level set meant for bow-wielding Amazons.
The recipes clearly state that these retain the same iLevels and properties, but what exactly does change and by how much? Patch 2.4 introduces four new recipes for the Horadric Cube to upgrade Set armor and weapons from Normal to Exceptional, and then from Exceptional to Elite.
